A burglar who was caught after a postman spotted him in the act and called police has been jailed.
Craig Mawby was sentenced to 32 months in prison after admitting breaking into a house on Rothervale Road, Chesterfield, on March 26.
Mawby, 30, was seen breaking into the house at around 10am by the local postman who dialled 999.
The thief then left the house after stealing cash. The postman followed him and stayed on the phone to police so officers could be directed to Mawby who was arrested nearby.
Mawby, of Derby Road, Chesterfield, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Wednesday, April 10.
He must also pay £120 victim surcharge.
Detective Chief Inspector Sean Dawson said: “This shows the difference members of a community can make when they come together and look out for one another.
“I would urge anyone who sees anything suspicious in their neighbourhood to contact police immediately as you could be witnessing a crime taking place.”
