A new £300,000 customer service centre will be opened by in Chesterfield on Friday (March 8).

The centre, in the former Revenues Hall in New Square, follows a five-month refurbishment and will offer a wide range of council tax and benefits services.

On Monday, March 11 licensing, environmental and planning customer services will move from the town hall to the new centre.

The existing customer service centre in the basement of the town hall has closed.

Cllr Sharon Blank, Chesterfield Borough Council’s executive member for customers and communities, said: “The Revenues Hall desperately needed modernising. The new centre will enable us to deliver a far better service to our customers.

“We’ve got rid of the counters and screens that could be a bit intimidating for some people and introduced open plan areas, with privacy screens and comfortable seating, which create much more welcoming and friendly surroundings.

“As well as having an experienced team of trained advisors to deal with queries, we’ve also installed easy-to-use payment machines, so customers can come in and pay their council bills in a single quick drop-in.”

The customer service centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday. The centre will also be open for payments only between 9am and noon on Saturdays.
