Chesterfield: Male voice choir in search of musical director

Chesterfield Male Voice Choir

Chesterfield Male Voice Choir

Chesterfield Male Voice Choir is in urgent need of a new musical director.

Andrew Booth, who previously held the position, stepped down recently due to overwhelming work commitments.

Long standing choir member Mike Spriggs has taken on the responsibility while a permanent musical director is sought.

It has come at a time of change for the choir, who moved to Whittington Moor Methodist Church, on Scarsdale Road, on February 11.

General secretary David Brocklehurst said the move had gone down well.

He said: “It’s been a lot of work but it has been worth it. The new premises is very modern and has better parking.”

The choir - in its 91st year - had previously been at St Leonard’s Church in Spital for more than a decade.

And it has been a busy year for the choir so far.

They sang at The Pomegranate Theatre last Sunday to raise funds for the Friends of Chesterfield Theatre and will be appearing at the The Speedwell Rooms in Staveley on March 15.

The choir is always looking for new members and anyone interested in becoming the new musical director can call David Brocklehurst on 01246 559919 or 07966 373984.
