Chesterfield live music night to raise money for humanitarian expedition

A senior health official will be dropping beats to raise money when he takes centre stage with his band in Chesterfield on Saturday 10 May.

Jim Connolly is chief nurse with NHS Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

But the day job will be the last thing on Jim’s mind as he sits behind the drum kit at the Arkwright Centre to belt out a string of rock classics with his band, Dangerous Pink.

Jim and his bandmates are the headlining attraction of a live music night running from 7.30pm to 11.30pm to raise funds for a humanitarian expedition being organised by five Bolsover district schools with the CCG, Derbyshire County Council and other members of the Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership.

The mission will see 30 students travelling to Namibia with the British Expedition Society to rebuild a school playground before spending four days trekking across wetlands, gorges and rocky terrain in the world’s oldest desert.

The gig will boost the fundraising efforts of the teenagers, who have each been set a £1,500 target.

There is a licensed bar, and tickets cost £5 with children entering for free. Tickets are available from Fran or Jo on 01246 514078.

The Namibian adventure is the brainchild of CCG chair Dr Steve Lloyd, who said: “The expedition will benefit the health of our young people while broadening their cultural horizons and enriching the lives of the Namibian schoolchildren. They will also learn a huge amount about team work, risk management and fundraising.”

The participating schools are The Bolsover School; Frederick Gent School, South Normanton; Heritage High School, Clowne; Shirebrook Academy and Stubbin Wood School.

Any local businesses or organisations interested in helping sponsor the project should call Charles Malkin on 01246 514971 or email charles.malkin@gemcsu.nhs.uk.
