A JAIL sentence hangs over a Pinxton pensioner who made unnecessary 999 calls and pestered his estranged wife.
Former disc jockey Allen Parkin had already received a two-year anti-social behaviour order for plaguing emergency services with calls.
Chesterfield magistrates heard that he phoned police at 10.30am, on December 3, claiming a solicitor had not arrived to take him to a court hearing.
Parkin, who has severe health problems, had no credit on his mobile phone and thought police would call his solicitor for him, said Becky Mahon, prosecuting.
Parkin and wife Christine also parted three years ago because of his violent temper and drinking, according to the court, and despite spending time together last summer he relapsed into alcohol abuse so Mrs Parkin decided enough was enough.
But the court heard how Parkin began harassing her by going to her home in Midland Terrace, Westhouses, and threatening her and he sent unwanted text messages and left flowers.
Parkin, 65, of Wharf Road, admitted harassment between October 23 and November 9 and breaching an ASBO on four dates in October and on December 3 by making unnecessary calls to emergency services.
Deputy District Judge Andrew Davison imposed a 12 week jail term suspended for a year. He also placed a restraining order on Parkin, banning him from bothering Mrs Parkin and entering Westhouses for a year.
He told him: “I can’t keep letting you walk out of here and commit offences. Prison is the last place a man in your health needs to be, but if you breach this sentence I will implement the prison term with a heavy heart.”
John Kavanagh, for Parkin, said he had struggled to cope with the break-up. He said: “They had many happy years together and she still cares about him but he is a different person now to the man she married.”
The court heard Parkin had worked for Rolls Royce and in the music industry.
