Chesterfield’s historic carnival is set to make a long-awaited comeback – 25 years after it folded.

The town is set to host the biggest event this area has seen for years on July 26.

The entertainment will kick off at 10.30am at Stand Road Park with a parade at 11am.

Carnival royalty will enter the arena with the queen crowned by Miss England at 11.45am.

Chesterfield Musketeers and other show bands will be in the display arena at 12.15 and the live music stage kicks off at 2pm.

A full schedule of events will take place on the community display stage from 10.30am including Britain’s Got Talent’s Strike, dance groups, a head shave and martial arts.

Organiser Maria Davison said: “We are very excited to be involved with such an amazing project. I cannot believe how I have watched this event grow and grow. It is a true grassroots movement.

“We are passionate about bringing the whole area together. It is definitely going to go down in history.”

Other attractions include Proctors Fun Fair, stands galore, craft workshops, a community marquee, rodeo bull and a gladiator dual.

Children’s activities will be on offer with prizes and giveaways as well as a dog show, a rock and roll tent, classic cars, fire engines and a mini zoo.

Launched in the 1960s, the carnival was held for over 20 years at Stand Road Park.
