A team of architects from Chesterfield are dusting off their running shoes this weekend as they prepare for the Dronfield 10km on Sunday, choosing local children’s hospice Bluebell Wood as their cause.
The group of 15 runners, who work at WCEC Architects, Carrwood, are familiar faces at the Dronfield 10km as they participate each year in support of a charity.
Last year’s event saw colleague and team member Jon Godwin bring fun to the run, when he participated in a classic Elvis Presley costume that grabbed the attention of the crowds, as will his extravagant outfit choice this time around.
This year, the firm is lending a helping hand to Bluebell Wood by representing ‘Team Bluebell’ in the 10km race. They hope to raise as much money as possible for the hospice which will go towards the vital service Bluebell Wood provides in supporting children and young people with a shortened life expectancy in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.
The Dronfield run will this year be celebrating its 20th anniversary and is a popular choice amongst runners as it has a high percentage of repeat runners competing year after year, like the Chesterfield-based architects.
The route will guide runners along a two lap road race set in Dronfield Woodhouse, near Sheffield.
Jon Godwin, one of the WCEC runners, said: “After supporting the same charity for several years, we wanted to make a positive change to another worthy cause.
“Bluebell Wood was nominated by one of my colleagues and after hearing about their work we all felt it was a brilliant selection.”
Heidi Megaughin, acting chief executive of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, added: “We’re delighted to have been chosen by WCEC as their adopted charity this year and we’d like to wish them all good luck for the run.
“We can’t wait to see what costumes they choose to run in which we’re sure will make a great contribution to ‘Team Bluebell!’”
