CHESTERFIELD: 30 years not out for newsroom legend Gay

Gay Bolton has been at the Derbyshire Times for 30 years.

Gay Bolton has been at the Derbyshire Times for 30 years.

THE ‘mother’ of the Derbyshire Times’ newsroom, Gay Bolton, has celebrated 30 years with the newspaper.

Gay, of Chesterfield, who started at the DT in 1983, marked last Thursday’s milestone with a surprise celebration organised by her colleagues.

The newsroom legend started as a senior reporter before rising through the ranks to become a sub-editor and entertainments editor.

She now works as a features writer, covering Grassroots and leisure.

Gay said: “When I started I was one of the youngest in the editorial office – now I’m the oldest!

“Highlights have included interviewing Tony Benn on the night he was elected MP for Chesterfield, setting up the Band of the Year competition and continually making new contacts. I work with a wonderful ‘family’ at the DT.”
