Police in the Bolsover and North East Derbyshire areas are taking part in a multi-agency operation to help prevent and reduce alcohol related harm and nuisance behaviour during the Halloween and bonfire celebrations.
They are teaming up with officers from Bolsover District Council and North East Derbyshire District Council, staff from Derbyshire County Council and Rykneld Homes as part of the B-Safe initiative.
The B–Safe project will involve officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams patrolling alongside youth workers from the district; CAN Rangers and officers from Rykneld Homes in parks and other places where young people gather, to look out for youngsters who are vulnerable because they have been drinking alcohol.
Any young person found to be vulnerable because they have been drinking alcohol will be taken home by police, their parents contacted and if appropriate a referral may be made to enable further support and advice through Derbyshire County Council’s Multi-Agency Teams.
The initiative will start on Friday, October 26, and run until Friday, November 30, with patrols taking place on Halloween, Bonfire Night and during weekend evenings in Shirebrook, Creswell, Bolsover, Tibshelf, Killamarsh, Pilsley, Grassmoor, Eckington, Dronfield and North Wingfield.
The patrols will allow officers to positively engage with and help to prevent young people getting involved with anti-social and nuisance behaviour, which has been known to increase at this time of year.
Community Safety Partnership Sergeant Paul Smith said: “The Halloween and Bonfire Night periods and during school holidays are a good time for young people to enjoy the celebrations but it is important that they do this safely and with respect for other members of the community.
“As well as working alongside our partners to offer diversionary activities such as the Extreme Wheels Roadshow, we will, if necessary, be taking positive action in situations where we find young people drinking alcohol underage or not respecting parks or public spaces and the wider community.”
