Booze-fuelled pub brawl horror video

A SHAMEFUL father and son were captured in a horror CCTV video assaulting two men during a pub brawl.

Thomas Bamford, 51, and son Ricky Bamford, 21, both of Wharf Road, Pinxton, admitted assaulting Simon Burton and Jon Kirk in the Blue Bell, at South Normanton. Ricky Bamford also admitted damaging a pub table.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard last week how Ricky Bamford struck Mr Burton in the face several times and hurled a table at him and Mr Kirk was punched repeatedly by Thomas Bamford and kicked in the head by Ricky Bamford. Both defendants threw punches at Mr Burton and Mr Kirk, according to the court.

Helen Griffiths, prosecuting, said: “Ricky Bamford said Mr Burton had previously kicked his father on the legs and he approached him about that and the incident escalated.”

Defence solicitor John Last said the Bamfords were ashamed when CCTV footage was shown in court and they regretted their actions in September which had been out of character and fuelled by drink.

Deputy District Judge Andrew Davison sentenced Ricky Bamford to jail for 16 weeks after hearing he had been cautioned for violence in 2005 and he was ordered to pay £30 compensation for the table. Thomas Bamford, who has no previous convictions, was given a 12 week jail term suspended for a year. He was ordered to do 150 hours’ unpaid work, given a 12 week curfew and must pay £85 costs. Both were banned from the Blue Bell for two years and must pay £300 compensation to Mr Kirk and £200 to Mr Burton.
