A bogus water board inspector burglared an 88-year-old woman’s home.

The man knocked on the woman’s door in Ennerdale Crescent, Chesterfield, on Wednesday at 6.15pm and said he needed to check the water.

While the elderly woman was in the kitchen he searched her bedroom.

There was another knock on the door and he said it was his boss and left.

She then discovered cash had been stolen along with two gold watches and jewellery.

The burglar was described as about 5ft 10ins, slim build, in his late 30s or early 40s, smartly dressed, wearing dark clothes and gloves.

Witnesses should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
