Blizzard conditions expected

The met office has warned that Derbyshire Dales residents should “be prepared” for blizzard conditions as more wintry weather approaches.

Light snow showers are expected to start later today (Thursday) but are predicted to get heavier into the evening.

For 6am on Friday, January 18, the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for the Derbyshire Dales and advises commuters to be prepared for dangerous driving conditions.

Heavy snowfall, temperatures of minus four degrees – which could feel as low as minus ten in the predicted 27mph gusts – are predicted all day and visibility is expected to be “very poor”.

The snow is expected to carry on through the night and all of Saturday – although temperatures are predicted to rise slightly and wind speeds should drop considerably.

All weather warnings expire at 3pm on Sunday, January 20.

As ever, send any wintry snaps to news@matlockmercury.co.uk and take care in the bad weather.
