Banned driver caught by police

From the courts

From the courts

A MAN caught driving while banned after he left work claimed he did not know he was disqualified, Chesterfield magistrates heard.

Marcin Skwarek, who had never passed a driving test, was banned for 15 months in July for a drink-driving offence.

Police saw him drive away from Sports Direct in Shirebrook and followed him for two miles before stopping his Audi A4.

“He said he was unaware he was disqualified and he had insurance although he had no papers to prove that,” said Becky Mahon, prosecuting.

Skwarek, 31, of York Road, Shirebrook, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on October 1.

Sentence was adjourned until Friday for probation service reports. His solicitor, Kevin Tomlinson, asked the bench to suspend any term of custody.

He said: “He is Polish and he has been in this country for 12 months. He obtained employment at Sports Direct two days after arriving.”
