A new appeal has been launched in a bid to solve a mystery case from the 1970s.
Police hope advances in technology can help solve the case of an unidentified body, found in a shed in 1979, who may have had links to north Derbyshire.
Following a national appeal by Thames Valley Police last month, a man came forward with information about an item of clothing the unidentified man was wearing.
Jon Corker, who lives in Canada believes the jacket the man was found in was made by his grandfather, JW Marples (known as Jim Marples) who was a tailor from north Derbyshire.
His clients were mostly from the rural and farming community in Chesterfield and Bakewell and visited, measured and fitted his clients at their homes.
The jacket worn by the deceased was tailored by Marples.
The body was discovered by a group of young people inside a shed in March 1979 in Donnington near Newbury.
He may have lain undiscovered in the grounds of Red Lodge, Donnington since the previous summer. At the time, he was believed to be a “man of the road”.
Approximately 60-years-old, the European male was very thinly built with grey eyes, grey receding hair and a moustache. He had no teeth.
He was wearing a grey single breasted jacket, a grey raincoat, a light grey and blue striped shirt and a green checked tie with orange stripes.
The appeal is part of Operation Nightingale, set up to establish the identities of eight bodies found across the Thames Valley dating back to the 1970s. Anyone with information should call police on 101.
