A inquest has opened in to the death of a 27-year-old motorcyclist who was killed after a collision with a lorry.

Christopher Taylor, of Milton Avenue, Alfreton died following the crash on the A61 near Shirland on Thursday, January 29.

At around 3.30pm his Yamaha Fazer motorbike collided with a heavy goods vehicle.

Emergency services including the air ambulance attended but he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of the A61 was closed for several hours between Westhouses and Shirland.

The inquest opened on Friday, February 1 at the Coroner’s Office in Chesterfield.

During the hearing PC Paul Moorcroft, of the collision investigation unit, said: “The motorbike appears to have encroached on to the wrong side of the road and in to the path of an on-coming lorry.”

Coroner Dr Robert Hunter adjourned the inquest pending further enquiries

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Moorcroft on 01773 572929.
