More than 240 young people, aged between seven and 15, attended an activites scheme during the Easter holidays at Aldercar Community Language College.

The scheme was run by Langley Mill Community Group, and supported by Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire County Council Youth Service.

Professional sportsman Chris Marples led the activities, which included football, hockey, tennis, basketball, cricket, dodgeball and Ozbox boxing. Arts and crafts also proved popular, with youngsters making jewellery, cards and picture frames.

Established in 2009, the scheme is funded by grants from Aldercar and Langley Mill Parish Council, Amber Valley Borough Council and cash from county councillor Paul Jones’s community fund and McDonald’s.

Events will continue to run throughout the summer. To register email sheenatrower@hotmail.com.
