£10,300 Mayor’s Appeal boost for hospice

Helping Out: Former Mayor and Mayoress Peter and Jean Barr present a cheque for 10,300 to Ashgate Hospice Ward Sister Emma Gould, which will be used to buy another Dynamap blood pressure machine.

THE CARING nurses at Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospice have been able to purchase vital new pain relieving equipment and furniture thanks to the 2011 Town Mayor’s Appeal which raised over £10,000 for the charity.

Former mayor Chesterfield Borough Cllr Peter Barr and his wife Jean worked really hard with the Mayor’s Appeal Committee organising and attending many different fundraising events.

Ward Sister Emma Gould demonstrated some of the equipment bought with the money as the former mayor relaxed in one of the three special recliner chairs also bought with the donation.

Ashgate Hospice’s Head of Fundraising and Communications Joanne Edwards said: “On behalf of everyone at Ashgate Hospice I would like to thank everyone involved with last year’s Mayor’s Appeal. The money they worked so hard to raise has been spent directly on patient care.”
