On Saturday, August 31 a fun day is being held on Grassmoor Primary School playing field (by kind permission of the headteacher Christine Moorcroft) to launch ‘Big Local’ in Grassmoor and Hasland.
Grassmoor and Hasland have been given ‘Big Local’ status by the Big Lottery Fund. This will ensure that the area receives at least £1 million of funds over the next ten years, to support residents in their endeavours to improve the quality of life in the area.
Admission to the event is free, with an emphasis on fun for all the family. Activities included bouncy castle, a roving magician, birds of prey display, pet zoo, Ozbox Extreme Wheels, NEOS Interactive Challenge, Multi sports, Community Support Services, Theatre Dance, Workshops, face painting, health stalls, St John Ambulance and local stalls organised by the voluntary organisations in Grassmoor including the Friendship Club and the Over 50’s Club.
There will be the opportunity to find out about ‘Big Local; and to enter a competition to give a name to ‘Big Local’ with a £100 prize voucher for the winner.
The event is being sponsored by Grassmoor, Hasland and Winsick Parish Council, Derbyshire County Council Community Fund, National Health Service Hardwick Community Care Group, North East Derbyshire District Council and Rykneld Homes.
Stephen Wright, chairman of the local Steering Group, said: “Come along, find out what it’s all about - get involved and make a difference to your community over the next few years.”
