GOLDEN couples Roland and Mary Melland and Dorothy and Chris Helme, have celebrated 50 years of marriage by raising money for charity.
Mary and Dorothy, who are sisters, married their partners in a double wedding at Kettleshulme village church on February 9, 1963 and held a party at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club at the weekend to celebrate the milestone.
Instead of asking for gifts, they asked friends and family for donations for Manchester’s Christie Hospital and have so far raised £900, with more donations set to come in.
Roland and Mary and Dorothy and Chris, who all live in Fernilee, would like to thank everyone who helped organise their party, and everyone who donated to the cause. They’d also like to thank their family for the meal they enjoyed on Sunday.
