A NORTH Derbyshire church has been awarded £4,000 from the county’s Freemasons to fund choral scholars.

Chesterfield Parish Church’s director of music, Ian Brackenbury, received the cheque and a plaque from W. Bro Brian Quartermain, representing the Freemasons of Derbyshire.

The funding will enable scholarships to be given to choral students to aid the singing of the men’s section of the church choir.

The choir is now looking for students, either from schools or universities/colleges, or who are on a gap year, to sing bass, tenor, alto, in return for a scholarship of between £700-£1,000 per annum, some of which could be used towards tuition fees, reviewed yearly.

Anyone interested should contact Ian Brackenbury on 07719 283735 for details.
