AS Wimbledon fans wait to see if Andy Murray wows the contest a tennis victory is being celebrated much closer to home.

Chesterfield Tennis Club has broken a world record after 393 people bounced tennis balls on rackets simultaneously together on Sunday.

The success beats the previous record by ten and has raised cash for disabled children’s charity Fairplay.

“We were dragging people who were spectating onto the courts to take part”, said organiser Louise Shipstone.

“When we did it balls were going up in the air and everyone was cheering.”

The day at the Hawksley Avenue club also included tennis coaching, fitness tests, family fun and a barbecue.

The club now has to submit evidence to the Guinness World Book of Records before the record is validated.
