A fundraising campaign has been set up in tribute to an inspirational former Chesterfield woman who was tragically found dead in her home at the age of just 41.

Care assistant Tina Ritchie, nee Brown, was a tireless volunteer for the YMCA who dedicated her life to helping others, particularly the most under-privileged and needy people in society.

Friends were devastated when she died at her home in Grimsby in July. Now one of them, David Osborne, is hoping to raise enough money to install a memorial garden and to set up an annual volunteer-of-the-year award, both in her name.

“Tina was a larger-than-life character whose memory should not be forgotten,” said David. “She was gracious, magnanimous, ameliorative and fundamentally decent, with an excellent sense of humour and a kind-hearted nature. She assisted the vulnerable with courage and a strong sense of self and pride.

“She was born and raised in Chesterfield, where many of her family and friends still live. We hope people in the town can support our campaign by making donations.”
