FAMILY fun was shared by visitors to the official opening of a Derbyshire County Council children’s centre.
Whittington Children’s Centre hosted a celebration day for local children and families so they could try what is on offer and meet staff.
The centre offers a variety of services and sessions from the base in Church Street North, Old Whittington including baby groups, dad groups, messy play and book swaps as well as information, advice and guidance about other useful services.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Young People, performed the official opening last week.
He said: “It’s wonderful to be able to meet local families and find out how useful children’s centres can be to them.
“Taster sessions give everyone the chance to find out what they can use – often for free – and to meet other families and youngsters from their area.
“Our children’s centres bring vital services for children and families together under one roof at the heart of communities.”
Derbyshire County Council has 54 children’s centres. Each centre is designed to meet the needs of the communities it serves.
The authority works alongside partner agencies including JobCentre Plus, and Citizens Advice Bureau to provide help and advice.
