Fritchley with Crich WI held their May meeting in the Congregational School Room, Fritchley. The president, Liz Griffiths, welcomed everyone. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, agreed and signed.
The Derbyshire Link was briefly discussed and correspondence dealt with.
Final preparations are well in hand for the garden party which is being held on the June 23, at 2pm, at the home of Clive and Jennifer Bailey in Fritchley, to mark the 90th birthday celebrations of Fritchley WI.
The speaker for the evening was Geoff Simms who is a member of Bullbridge and Sawmills Civic Society . He gave who an interesting talk on the history of Bullbridge. It is surprising that most of the members who have lived in the area all their lives found out information they had no knowledge of. Geoff said that the first mention of Bullbridge was found in a plan of 1690 and he went on to tell of all the different industries that had been present in Bullbridge through the years until the eventual closure of Stevenson’s Dyers. Liz Griffiths gave a vote of thanks and refreshments were then served.
The next meeting of Fritchley with Crich WI will take place in the Congregational School Room on June 12, at 7.30pm. All welcome.
