Free property marking kits for Clowne residents

POLICE in Clowne are handing out free property marking kits to help residents to protect their homes from thieves.

The Smartwater kits have been paid for by Clowne Parish Council and are being handed out to every household in the village by Bolsover District Council and Derbyshire Police.

They will be available from local officers who will be on the Mobile Police Station outside Clowne Community Centre all day on Sunday, August 14.

Smartwater is a liquid which is invisible to the naked eye but contains a unique code that can be identified under UV light. It can be applied to property such as TVs, laptops and even cars to ensure that if it were stolen and recovered it can be returned to the owner.

PC Tanya Morton, of Clowne Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We want residents to use these kits to help us to prevent thefts and burglaries.”

To collect your free Smartwater kit you will need two utility bills to prove you are a Clowne resident and photo identification such as a passport or driving licence.

If you are not available to attend, more giveaways will be planned in the coming weeks.
