A former Matlock pupil has been identified as a top journalist after winning a prestigious award.

Faye Kilburn, who attended Highfields School, has been named Journalist of the Year in the Investor Services and Technology category of the State Street UK Institutional Press Awards.

Faye now lives in New York working for a magazine called Inside Market Data, but is originally from Darley Dale. She was awarded for her work as a European reporter for the publication.

She commented: “I feel very honoured to win because State Street are a huge company in the capital markets space and it’s really nice to be recognized by your peers.

“I was up against some tough competition so I feel like it’s a great achievement.”

The State Street Institutional Press Awards were launched in 2002 and were the first of their kind, honouring the hard work of journalists covering institutional investment, pensions, investor services and technology.

Head judge Charles Batchelor commented: “This year’s entries confirmed that conveying useful information is an important role of the journalist.

“The ability to inject life and colour into frequently dry, technical areas of the world of pensions and investments is what has distinguished this year’s winners. In particular, the quality of writing in investor services and technology was high this year.”
