A SHOTGUN owner fell foul of the law when he failed to renew his certificate in time.
Sean William Ryan, 50, of Church Street, Bradwell, admitted possessing three shotguns, a Browning 12 bore, a Baikal 12 bore and a Norica 410, without a certificate when he appeared before High Peak magistrates on Monday.
John Bunting, defending, said: “It is a very straightforward matter. Mr Ryan had a five-year certificate which expired on June 19. Now at that time Mr Ryan had one or two problems, with work, illness of his mother and he simply forgot to renew it.
“It seems to me he had done exactly the sensible thing, speaking to the police and taking their advice and making sure the three guns went to another shotgun certificate holder.”
Mr Bunting said: “It was forgetfulness but he has done everything he possibly can to be sensible about it.”
Ryan was fined £176, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 government surcharge.
