The contamination means that Asda 4 Vegetarian Vegetable Burgers with a best before date of April 6 2017 may pose a health risk.

The burgers, which come as a pack size of 454g, have a barcode #505478108284.

A spokesperson for the store said: “It has come to our attention that there is a small risk of hard green plastic contamination in our Asda 4 Vegetarian Vegetable Burgers, with the best before date of 6th April 2017.

“If you have purchased some of the Asda 4 Vegetarian Vegetable Burgers with the above best before date, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.

“You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The Food Standards Agency added: “Asda is recalling its Asda 4 Vegetarian Vegetable Burgers with a ‘best before’ date of 6 April 2017 because the products may contain pieces of hard green plastic.

“This means these products are a possible risk to health.

“No other Asda products are known to be affected.”
