PEOPLE can spend a penny in the supermarket with the first in a new ‘community toilet’ scheme.
The WCs in Morrisons on Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, are now open to the wider public free of charge in the initiative with Chesterfield Borough Council.
They will provide safe, quality facilities, without associated maintenance and cleaning costs during a time of public service funding cuts, the council said. Businesses which meet agreed standards will receive a payment of £600-950 annually, depending on facilities, from the authority.
Cllr Ian Openshaw, lead member for sustainable communities and climate change, said: “We’d like to encourage other businesses to come on board so we can widen the borough’s network of quality toilet facilities and hopefully help generate additional income for partners involved.”
