More than 15,000 residents watched as Chesterfield Borough Council’s annual fireworks display went off with a bang.
Despite rain in the lead-up to the event at Stand Road Recreation Ground on Bonfire Night, the weather was fine for the display, which featured a new firework this year – silver screaming discs rising in the sky.
Cllr Amanda Serjeant, the council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “Our fireworks extravaganza at Stand Road is always popular and this year has been no exception with lots of really positive comments from people who came along to the event.
“People particularly seemed to enjoy the way the fireworks were synchronised with the accompanying music.
“Our staff put a lot of time and effort into organising the event and I’m pleased their hard work has been appreciated.”
The next council-run family event will be the Christmas lights switch-on which will happen at 4.45pm in New Square on November 24.
