POLICE and firefighters have launched an investigation into the cause of a massive blaze at a sweet factory in Bakewell this morning.
The blaze was discovered at the sweet franchise and wholesale business, on Station Road industrial estate, Bakewell, about 3am, this morning, Tuesday, May 17, and firefighters were called out from Bakewell, Matlock, Hathersage, Buxton, Ilkeston and Ripley.
A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “There were about 30 firefighters tackling this blaze at its height using a specialist high volume water pump and the road was closed to traffic.”
Crews also used an aerial ladder platform to battle the blaze at the two-storey, 40metre x 100metre building and the water board was informed to increase water pressure in the area to help extinguish the fire.
The electricity board, gas board and Environment Agency were also alerted as a precaution and Derbyshire Constabulary officers were in attendance to help keep the area safe.
Firefighters were still damping down at 7am this morning, Tuesday, May 17, and an investigation was planned to take place later today to establish the exact cause.
