A crew of four from Bakewell were travelling from Ashford-in-the-Water to Taddington to attend a crash involving a Toyota Celica yesterday morning when the fire engine left the road and overturned.

The 47-year-old driver of the appliance was airlifted to hospital with head and back injuries while the remaining crew were treated at the scene. And Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) has today confirmed that the firefighter has now been released from hospital and is back home with his family recovering from the accident.

DFRS added that they would like to thank everyone for their kind words and messages, wishing a speedy recovery to all involved.

Firefighters from Buxton then attended the original crash while a crew from Chapel went to help their Bakewell colleagues. The female driver of the Toyota Celica was cut free from her car but it is not known whether she required hospital treatment.
