FIRE crews were called to rescue a dog who had become trapped on a railway line.

At around 5pm yesterday (June 20), Clowne firefighters, as well as a specialist animal rescue unit from Matlock, were called to Sheffield Road, Creswell, where a spaniel named Molly had become stuck near the entrance of the Creswell to Whitwell line.

Rush-hour trains were brought to a standstill as firefighters accessed the line on foot.

The dog was rescued and safely returned to his owner. Crews left the scene at 6pm.
