A TOWN’S million pound facelift is almost complete, and will be unveiled just in time for the Royal Wedding.
Installation work is taking place this week on the centrepiece of Crown Square – the final part of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s £1m programme to enhance Matlock.
In the past year old-style lamps, increased space for pedestrians and landscaping features have given a new look to the heart of the town in a project called IMPRESS – Initial Matlock Public Realm Enhancement and Surfacing Scheme.
A District Council spokesperson said: “The Crown Square centrepiece has been a talking point in the town, with many different views on what it should look like.
“We’re delighted a local Derbyshire Dales company – Stancliffe Stone - has provided the stone for a ‘cushion’ on which will sit the original Crown Square crown.”
