A LOVING couple who first met at a cinema club aged just 13 have celebrated 60 happy years together.
Nora and Alfred Bird, both 79, celebrated their diamond wedding surrounded by family and friends at a party at Lockoford Inn, Tapton.
The film-loving duo were married at Christ Church, Stonegravels on December 22, 1950, while Alfred was on leave from service in the RAF.
During their working lives, Alfred worked for Derbyshire Publicity Services as a commercial artist while Nora worked in Swallows department store before taking time off to have a daughter, Beverley. They also now have a grandson, Jonathan.
They returned to the county ten years ago, after spending 34 years living in Whitby, and now live on Lockoford Lane, Chesterfield.
Speaking of their hobbies, Nora, said: “We both enjoy all types of music and we still love films.”
Alfred added: “We are also interested in 1940s re-enactments.”
