Preparations are well underway for this year’s Furness Vale Field Day event, which promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
The event, on Saturday May 18, will feature live music from bands Atlas Inferno, Air Lock, Illegal Regals and Sidewinderz, as well as children’s rides, face painting and activities, stalls, crafts, a beer tent and a tea tent. A new addition for this year is a fun dog show.
Furness Vale Field Day started six years ago when a group of local residents got together to raise money to improve a field off Yeardsley Lane in Furness Vale, which is on a slope and has poor drainage.
Since its creation, the event has grown considerably and the project is making good progress, led by the Community Organising Green Spaces (COGS) group. COGS chair Terry Watson said it was planned to level and drain the field, and then create a football pitch, multi-use games area, and possibly a skate park and picnic area.
Entry to the Field Day event is free and there will also be a raffle, with a number of prizes supported by local businesses.
“It is a real family fun day and all the prices for the barbecue and bar are very reasonable,” Terry added.
The committee thanked all the local businesses and organisations who have supported the event.
Furness Vale Field Day runs from 12 noon to 6pm, in a field off Yeardsley Lane.
