TWO children and an adult were taken to hospital after they escaped a major house fire.
Firefighters were called to Mitchell Way, New Whittington, at 11.30pm last night (Friday).
Upon arrival, crews were confronted with a “well-established and severe” house blaze.
One adult and two children fled the fire after being alerted by a smoke detector.
They were taken to hospital as firefighters battled the blaze.
A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “It’s clear this family’s lives were saved by the working smoke alarms fitted to this property.
“We’ll be returning to the area today (Saturday) to provide information on preventing fires in the home and the importance of having working smoke alarms on every floor of the house.”
