Evening walks in the north Derbyshire countryside introduced more than 20 years ago, are to go ahead again this summer.
The Dronfield Footpaths and Bridleways Society has organised a programme of a dozen walks all on Thursday evenings, which get underway tonight (May 10).
The society launched the walks shortly after its formation in 1989, mainly to show people where society volunteers had carried out improvements to local rights of way. Initially, there were a few walks, but in recent years the programme has been extended to make the most of the longer summer evenings.
“The walks have proved popular, often with more than 20 walkers, taking part. Walks are generally around four miles in distance” said a society spokesman.
Dates and starting points for the walks which all are on a Thursday and start at 7pm are:
May 10 - outside Devonshire Arms, Middle Handley; May 24 and June 14 - lay-by on B6057 between Dronfield and Unstone; May 31, June 7 and July 26 - car park rear of Coal Aston village hall; June 21 - Gorsey Brigg car park, Pentland Road, Dronfield Woodhouse; June 28 and August 2 - Hyde Park Inn, Hill Top, Dronfield; July 5 - car park rear of Dronfield sports centre; July 12 - Fox and Hounds public house, Marsh Lane; July 19 - Holmesfield village hall car park.
