CELEBRATIONS are set to take place in Chesterfield to mark the Year of the Dragon.

The town’s Chinese community is gearing up for a night of entertainment on Tuesday, January 31, to see in the new year.

The event, based on the lunar calendar, will take place at The Winding Wheel from 6.30pm to 10.30pm and will include a lion dance, Chinese folk dancing, ballet, singers, music and food.

The town’s mayor and mayoress will also be attending.

Jessica Yip, secretary of Chesterfield’s Chinese Association, said: “It will be a great evening and we are promoting Chinese culture.”

Tickets, which include dinner and entry to a prize draw, are £15 for non members. Tickets for members are £10 for adults, £8 for children under 11 years old and £8 for people aged 65 and over.

They can be bought from the Tang Wong Chinese Takeaway, Grab a Bite, Chesterfield Miners Welfare Club and Queens Park Badminton Courts.
