He also co–founded Wirksworth theatre company Men in Dressing Gowns with fellow actor Darren John Langford in 2006.

Mr Smith was last seen at his home at 9.42pm and had been wearing blue jogging bottoms, a black padded jacket with green parka coat over the top and a maroon and grey wool hat. He also had plaster casts on both wrists.

Twenty members of Derby Mountain Rescue Team, as well as a specialist search dog, took part in the operation to find him, which focussed on the Wirksworth and Middleton area.

A spokesman for the team said: “It’s very sad that there was not a positive outcome to the search.

“We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person at this most difficult time.”

The body, which matches the description of Mr Smith, has not yet been formally identified, but the police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

He had previously been represented by Actors Direct, who declined to comment at this time.
