YOUNGSTERS in Marsh Lane will watch a musical about the effects distraction burglaries have on elderly people so they can help keep older relatives safe.

‘Trickster the Musical’ is being perfomed by trained actors at Marsh Lane Primary School on Tuesday, October 13 for youngsters aged eight to 11-years-old.

The musical aims to raise the level of awareness of the issue of distraction burglary and dishonest doorstep traders.

After the show there will be workshops about ways the children can help their relatives avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime.

Officers from the Eckington and District Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be there on the day speaking to children about personal safety.

Sergeant Mel Hagues, multi-agency team manager for Eckington, said: “Distraction burglary is a despicable crime that not only robs people of material things but also their pride and confidence.

“We hope by educating youngsters they will be encouraged to look out for elderly relatives and pass on important information about staying safe in the home.”

The performance is being funded by Derbyshire County Council and the North East Derbyshire Community Safety Partnership.
