Hayfield will be taking a step back in time this weekend.

The village hall will be transformed into a vintage tea room on Saturday to celebrate the May Queen approaching its 87th year.

The annual coffee morning will take place from 10am to 2pm, alongside a display of memorabilia from the May Queen archives.

People of all ages are being invited to go along and sample a home-made cake, savoury or treat while browsing through the historical material.

A May Queen committee spokesperson said: “This event is showing the true community spirit of Hayfield as all the items have been donated from friends and supporters of the May Queen. We would particularly like to thank Christine Peacock and Sue Hindle for co-ordinating the donations and displays.”

This year’s May Queen event will take place on Saturday May 10 when the village will embrace the Latin flavour with the 2014 theme being Rio and all things carnival.

Anyone interested in entering the parade should contact Hayfield May Queen Secretary Zoe Wild on 07735 094 166.
