Disabled workers’ factory strike

REMPLOY workers at a Chesterfield factory designed primarily to support disabled staff are striking today after they voted to take industrial action over the feared privatisation of their factory.

Concerns have arisen at the factory, on Sheffield Road, at Whittington Moor, after apprentices who are not disabled have been taken on and shop floor workers have been given jobs with inferior terms and conditions.

GMB spokesman Phil Davies said staff at the footwear factory were “outraged” and “worried” that different people could come in on different terms and conditions.

Remploy provides employment opportunities to support disabled people and those experiencing barriers to work.
