NESTLED away within Chesterfield’s rustic Shambles is a hidden gem of a restaurant.
Elliott’s is a quaint eatery, its cottage-style décor of pine tables and chairs, sage green and cream walls makes its customers feel at home instantly.
I wanted to treat myself to some lunch out and was recommended Elliott’s as I’m a vegetarian.
I was spoiled for menu choices, with an extensive specials board boasting a quiche or risotto of the day, with a gluten free option, an aubergine and green bean curry, a hot three bean chilli, a sweet chilli stir fry or for the more reserved palate, parsnip and chickpea cobblers or roasted veg fritatas.
I opted for the roast squash, brie and spinach puff slice which came with a colourful salad and wonderfully creamy homemade coleslaw. The sweetness of the dish was a pleasant lunchtime treat.
I was amazed at the prices of these main courses. A full plate of homemade food in a wonderful setting for only £6.20. I should treat myself more often.
The restaurant had a steady stream of customers which kept the staff on their toes but the tables were cleared quickly and the staff were all very friendly and efficient.
I was on a lunch break from work and in a rush but in spite of their food being cooked fresh on the premises, my order was served quickly and I was back in the office before I knew it.
There is a small shop at the back of the restaurant selling vegetarian and gluten free products, Eco-friendly household cleaning products, a range of teas and flours and other whole foods – a one stop shop.
Elliott’s boast that they are Chesterfield’s only vegetarian restaurant catering for vegan and gluten free diets, and from my experience, they will take some beating on the quality of their meals.
The restaurant opens from 9am to 4pm or 5pm depending on the day.
A wide range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free breakfasts and brunches are on offer, along with sandwiches and soups throughout the day. There is a great cake selection, catering for gluten-free customers too, and the cream teas prove very popular.
The restaurant hosts vegetarian bistro evenings, where you can take your own wine, without a corkage charge, the next one being Tuesday, March 27.
Overall I had a wonderful dining experience which I hope to repeat in the near future.
If, like me, you have never been before, then try it – you’ll wonder why you have never discovered the delights of Elliott’s restaurant.
