THE Derbyshire Times this week welcomes James Mitchinson as its new Editor.
James joins the team having spent the last 12 months as Group Editor of Lincolnshire Newspapers, where he edited the Grantham Journal.
He also managed Editors across the Lincolnshire and Leicestershire counties, from the likes of Skegness and Boston across to Melton Mowbray.
He began his career in journalism a decade ago at the Worksop Guardian, where he rose through the ranks to eventually edit the Guardian and its associated titles.
James said: “It is an absolute honour to be picking up the Editorship of a title I have long admired. Living just over the border in Warsop means I have always picked up the Derbyshire Times - usually when my dad took me off to see ‘t’fishman’ at Shirebrook.”
“You could say I’ve worked for the group since I was a lad, having delivered the Mansfield Chad in all weathers on my early paper round, and I’m looking forward to giving the next generation of paperboys and girls something exciting to give to the readers.”
James added: “Now I’m really keen to meet the people of Chesterfield and beyond to find out what they want from the Times and its increasingly popular website and mobile phone services.”
