A stretch of the M1 was closed on Saturday night (March 9) following a serious accident involving several vehicles.
Firefighters from Clowne and Staveley were called to the incident, northbound between junctions 29a and junction 30, just before 9pm.
A fire spokesman said a man, trapped in one of the vehicles, was freed and taken to hospital by ambulance. A further three casualties were airlifted to hospital by air ambulance.
The motorway later reopened.
