MATT Black has been announced as the county’s fourth poet laureate.

The composer of poems for adults and children, of Sheffield, knows Derbyshire well having worked in the county and through spending time exploring in his caravan.

He follows Peak District writer Ann Atkinson and will be in his new role until September 2013.

Dad-of-two Matt plans to use Derbyshire’s countryside, culture and history to inspire his writing.

He said: “I am really looking forward to it and see it as an adventure.

“I’ve bought myself a map of Derbyshire and now I’m just waiting to see what happens − it’s very exciting.”
