Police are advising motorists to avoid the temptation to leave vehicles insecure during the hot weather.

The advice comes following concerns that drivers may be tempted to leave windows open or the engines running to keep the air conditioning on while the car is unattended putting them at risk of vehicle crime.

Sergeant Paul Smith, of the Bolsover Community Safety Partnership, said: “Please don’t make your vehicle an easy target to a would-be offender.

“Make sure your car is secure.”
