The assessment particularly focused on two key areas – the Trust’s ability to hold people to account, and to inform and involve those who use and deliver its services.

The inspection checked that effective procedures had been put in place to ensure that Trust staff, patients and premises are safe, which ultimately ensures that a safe environment is created for patient care.

The assessment also reported that the Trust has clear policies in place to prevent and address violence, security breaches, theft and criminal damage.

Carrina Gaunt, the Trust’s lead for security management said: “It’s vitally important that we have safe and secure premises from which to deliver our healthcare services and I am delighted that NHS Protect recognised the importance we place on this at Derbyshire Healthcare. We regularly speak with our patients and their carers to ensure that they feel safe and secure when they are being treated in or visiting one of our premises, and we will maintain this focus over the forthcoming months and years.”

Following this assessment, the Trust will continue to self-audit itself against the requirements outlined by NHS Protect, and will be reassessed in 2019.
