Derbyshire: Entries open for people wanting to take part in the High Peak winter hike

The event, which is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary, is set to take place on Sunday November 16, and people will be set to walk 17 miles across the High Peak Trial in Derbyshire.

The challenge will start at the Matlock Rugby Club in Cromford Meadows.

Helen Wright, Regional Event Organiser for the BHF in the North, said: “We’re thrilled to be organising the High Peak Winter Hike for the 20th year. It has clearly shown itself to be a much loved event in the local community and so we hope to see many enthusiastic people eager and willing to take on the challenge yet again this year.

“Coronary heart disease is not beaten yet – it remains the single biggest killer in the UK. It is responsible for almost 80,000 deaths each year – that’s over 200 people dying every single day, so we urgently need the people of Yorkshire to support us in our search for the breakthrough that’s so desperately needed.

“A BHF event is the perfect way to support the nation’s heart charity, save lives and improve your own heart health at the same time. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer claiming over 7,000 lives a year in Yorkshire and The Humber alone. A further 218,000 people are living with the disease in the region. The BHF funds hundreds of pioneering research projects every year across the UK to put an end to the suffering that this disease causes and it is through the fundraising of its supporters that the charity is able to continue its life-saving work.”
